REVERENCE FOR LIFE FOUNDATION

If by the use of the Word “religion” you mean creed, dogma, and sect or hand me down beliefs and superstition it is very young and recent. But if by the word you mean a Reverence for the true understanding and philosophy of life, a true reverence for life itself, thus a true reverence for the sublime pure feeling of your indwelling God, of the great Creative Cause, then you may trace this from the present back beyond all history, all mythology, all allegory, to the original time of man’s first advent upon earth. Before kings, emperors, presidents, or man-made rule held sway in the heart of the first man there burned or shone forth the greatest reverence for the source of all life and the beauty of that life; the beauty and reverence of that pure soul in us shines undimmed through the long ages and so will continue to shine undimmed through all eternity.

When life first manifested man, he knew full well that life is, was, and will forever be one with itself. He had the deepest reverence for Its indwelling source and that is the Reverence which we are all being inspired to remember through our Christ consciousness as our birth right, our meat and drink, and as our heavenly paradise on earth here now and always.

The Reverence For Life Foundation is a registered entity. Its Founder is Desmond Green and Directors Dawn Vaz and Michael McNaughton. Its current focus is in creating a culture of Life Affirming Values for the entire Nation. Through our work with the Department of Correctional Services, we have developed a model programme using the principles of Reverence For Life as outlined in Passport To A Healthy Lifestyle

In five years since the programme was initiated we have seen remarkable change in the prison culture. In the maximum-security facilities of South Camp and Tower Street in particular the Reverence For Life Culture can be seen in several units of men serving the community in many different ways. Fifty men are currently clearing the May Pen Cemetery. There is a school-counselling programme where team-mates formerly called inmates, conduct motivational workshops for inner city schools. Outreach community services are performed on Sundays at many neighbourhood churches in many communities as far as Westmoreland, Hanover, Trelawny, St. Ann and St. Catherine.

A headquarters has been established staffed by former inmates to see to the welfare of teammates and their families on the outside. There is a Reverence For Life radio programme aired on Roots FM each week which sensitises the community on our principles of healthy living. We continue to expand as the need for our message is seen to be the solution to the culture of violence and crime that has been over-running the country.

Everything in life changes for the better when….

  1. You accept what is and not what you think should be
  2. You appreciate what life brings to you without judgement
  3. You allow things to be and to pass while standing your own ground
  4. You can see your reflection in life and benefit from the experience
  5. You can see what comes more as playful illusions than permanent facts
  6. You can embrace conditions unconditionally and release them completely
  7. You can accept what comes to you as your creation without denying its consequences
  8. You have enough self confidence to treat situations more as learning opportunities than as threats to your survival
  9. You can see a thing for what it is, allow it to be itself, and free it to complete its course, at its own pace, and on its own terms
  10. You can accept yourself unconditionally
  11. You can love generously
